Kern County Superintendent of Schools Swine Flu Information Page School Alert Swine Influenza A (H1N1) Health Alert September 2, 2009 Southern Kern Unified School District has received information from the Kern County Department of Public Health Department. “There are no recommendations for school closures in Kern County at this time.” School districts and communities have been asked to enhance surveillance of flu-like symptoms. Schools are asked to exclude students or staff from school who exhibit flu-like symptoms. We are encouraged to look for symptoms and particularly: · Fever higher than 37.8 degrees C (100 degrees F) and a cough and/or sore throat · Other reported symptoms include: Stuffy nose, Chills, Headache and body ache, and Fatigue · Travel to Mexico within 7 days of illness onset or in contact with ill household members with this travel history Other recommendations for protecting students and staff from infection include: - Wash or sanitize your hands before and after touching your eyes, nose or mouth - Soap and water or alcohol based hand sanitizer should be readily available to all staff and students - Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your elbow when you cough or sneeze - Tissue and suitable disposal receptacles should be readily available for anyone coughing or sneezing The following information is available for your use - Kern County Department of Public Health Swine Flu information - La Influenza Porcina - Cover Your Cough - Cubra su tos Further information will be disseminated when received from health officials.
