Westpark Elementary School

As the Principal of Westpark Elementary School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2013-2014 school year. Westpark provides programs and curriculum that meet state standards and appeal to student interest, aptitudes and competencies. Our committed staff is dedicated to developing a positive and nurturing learning environment in which students are able to achieve success in all academic areas.

It is our goal at Westpark to educate every child to be an academically successful student, a socially responsible citizen, and a lifelong learner by teaching the necessary knowledge, skills, and the appreciation of cultural diversity. This is achieved through fostering excellence, mutual respect, creativity, and the joy of learning with an effective, caring, innovative staff, in partnership with home and community.

Parent support and assistance is vital in the education process. It is important that you stay aware of your child’s academic and social progress. Monitor your child’s assignments and the quality of completed assignments. Do not hesitate to call your child’s teacher or the school office if you have questions or are in need information about your child or school activities. This school year it is our school’s goal to offer at least two educational parent nights, in which we will provide ideas and materials to be used at home to enhance your child’s education.

I welcome your input, suggestions, and question. An excellent way to have a huge impact on the programs within our school is to become a member of our Parent Teacher Organization or School Site Council. If you are interested in participating in either group, contact me at your earliest convenience by calling the school office at 661-256-5030 or by sending an e-mail to llacey@skusd.k12.ca.us.

All of us at Westpark look forward to a great year and are excited about being a part of your child’s education.

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need.

Here's how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class.

Then, you can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. Once a project reaches its funding goal, we deliver the materials to the school.

You'll get photos of your project taking place, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If you give over $100, you'll also receive hand-written thank-you letters from the students.

At DonorsChoose.org, you can give as little as $1 and get the same level of choice, transparency, and feedback that is traditionally reserved for someone who gives millions. We call it citizen philanthropy.
