Hi, this is Mr. Adams, principal of TMS. I want to welcome back all of our TMS students and parents to the 2020-21 school year. As you may have heard we will start this school year with Distance Learning. All students need a laptop. Next week we will be distributing laptops, hotspots to those who have requested one, student schedules and workbooks. We will do this from the PE Room next to the gym. We will start with the 6th grade on Wednesday, August 5th, 7th grade on Thursday, August 6th, and 8th grade on Friday August 7th. Students will follow a schedule based on last names. When students arrive at the school the will go to the gym, alone, with parents staying in their cars. Students will be sent from the gym to the PE room to pick up their supplies. When they are finished they will exit the PE room and return to their parents in the parking lot. Students will need to wear a mask and practice social distancing while on campus. Finally, parents must complete the data confirmation prior to students checking out a device. This is done on the Parent Portal. Once the process is completed, please print a copy of your child’s emergency card. The student must bring the printed copy of the emergency card at the time of check-out.
TMS Distribution Schedule
8:00 - 9:30
9:45 - 11:15
12:00 - 1:30
1:45 - 3:15
Here are the guidelines will be following for all students:
Students will come to the gym entrance with data confirmation forms/emergency cards (Parents remain in the parking lot).
The Campus Safety Officer will seat students in the gym in the order they arrive until it is their turn to go to the PE Room.
When called, the students will go to the PE room and do the following in this order:
- Check in with staff to pick up their schedule
- Check in with staff to pick up books/workbooksheck in with staff to log books into Follet
- Check in with Mr. Shelman to pick up their laptop (and hot spot if student has signed up), login to the Clever Portal and Google
- Once student has met with Mr. Shelman they will exit out of the North door, turn right, and go back to the parking lot.
Social distancing and mask wearing rules apply. We will be doing temperature checks prior to entering the building.
If you have not returned a device you will be issued a $50 fine. If a student has signed up for a hot spot it will be distributed with a laptop.
Students will log in to the laptop and verify their accounts.
We will have preventative measures in place to keep the pick-up safe and social distancing will be enforced. We ask that only the student come to pick up so we can limit the people on campus. Remember, you will need to wear your face mask while on campus.
If you have questions or can't make the assigned day/time you may contact the TMS office at 661-256-5040 or email TMS administration.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year here at Tropico Middle School! For those of you I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet, my name is Nat Adams, I will be your principal. I look forward to working with you this coming year and building on what is already a great school with an excellent faculty and staff. We have many new faces, both students and staff. We also have a new format for this year. We will be full distance learning until told otherwise by Kern County Superintendent of Schools. I am confident that this will be an amazing year for all involved. I want to share with you all the expectations we have for students at TMS. We expect our students to be safe, respectful, responsible, successful, and to show integrity. We truly believe that all students can meet these expectations and that by doing so, will experience great success at TMS.As demands and complexities of teaching children increase, it becomes more evident that we all need to work together to ensure that our children reach their highest potential. I believe that all of us – the school and the community – must work together in an extended family environment to ensure success for all our students. I believe it is everyone’s responsibility to empower children with the creative, intellectual, and decision-making skills necessary for them to become academically, socially, physically, and emotionally successful and responsible. All students will receive the school handbook within their planner. This handbook establishes the rules and expectations of behavior for the upcoming school year. Take some time to review the material enclosed as a family, so that everyone becomes familiar with the content. I look forward to meeting and working with you all as we begin our journey together for the 2019-2020 school year.
Starry Night, by Grace Rosales Vogenthaler
