    Dear Westpark Families:

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our students and their families.  The WES teachers and staff have an incredible year of learning planned and will strive to meet the unique needs of all of our K-5 students.  We look forward to another outstanding year at Westpark Elementary.

Our staff and parents have created a learning community that is united around its children. This is a community that works together to create a positive learning environment for our students. We are a California Gold Ribbon School and recognized as an Exemplary Academic Achieving school by the California Department of Education. It is my honor and privilege to be leading such a remarkable school community.

Our home and school partnership is grounded in a strong tradition of supportive, hard-working families.  Throughout the year you will have opportunities to develop our partnership in various ways.  Families may volunteer in the classroom, become involved in the School Site Council, or participate in many other events and activities that make our school a special place for our children.  The Westpark PTA was established last school year and has been a huge benefit to our school.

In our classrooms, we offer a challenging, standards based program of instruction for all children and develop learning experiences that motivate and engage your child. Teachers will impart knowledge, teach skills and instill a love of learning.  Campus-wide an emphasis will be placed on student safety, building self-esteem, along with respect for others and for one’s environment.

Please know that I am here to serve your children.  If at any time you have questions or concerns, my door is open to you.

Here's a little bit about us:

    Edward Shevlin, Assistant Principal

I joined SKUSD in 2014.  I am originally from Brooklyn, N.Y. where I lived for most of my life before moving to Rosamond.  I taught in Brooklyn, NY for 9 years as an Elementary teacher and Data Specialist. For the past 4 years I have served as a teacher at Rare Earth Continuation High School.  This past year, I served as the Administrative Designee for the Alternative Education Program.  I received my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Ramapo College of New Jersey and my Master's degree in Teaching from Marywood University.   My wife Jessica, an RHS alumni, and I have two children who attend Westpark Elementary.  I try to be an active member of the community volunteering and supporting various programs.

    Leslie Lacey, Principal

I have lived in Rosamond and worked in the Southern Kern Unified School District for 24 years.  I have held teaching and administrative positions within the district, including serving as Westpark’s Principal for five years.  I moved away from Rosamond for two years a few years ago, however missed the Rosamond Community and have been back working for SKUSD for the past three going on four years.  During my years away, I was a Principal in Westwood, CA for a year and an Instructional Facilitator/Interventionist in Wyoming.  I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from CSU, Fresno and Master of Arts degree/Administrative Credential from CSU, San Bernardino.  I am happy to be back living and working in Rosamond, the place I consider my home.  Thank you to SKUSD and the Westpark Elementary Communty for allowing me to serve as your Principal.
