"Embracing the Whole Child"
Principal, Dr. Debi Keys
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
Welcome to the new school year at Tropico Middle School! As the principal, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the journey ahead. I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break, filled with moments that brought joy and inspiration. As we embark on this exciting journey together, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to both our returning families and those who are joining us for the first time. We are thrilled to have you as part of our school community and look forward to a year filled with growth, learning, and memorable experiences.
Our Commitment to Excellence: At Tropico Middle School, we are dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where every student can thrive. Our talented team of educators is committed to fostering a love for learning and helping each student reach their full potential. We believe in a holistic approach to education, addressing the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students. We are passionate about guiding our students through their middle school years, witnessing their transformation, and celebrating their achievements.
Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS): To ensure that all students receive the support they need, we implement a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS):
Tier 1: Universal Supports
All students receive high-quality, differentiated instruction in the general education classroom. Our teachers use evidence-based practices to create engaging and accessible learning experiences for every student.Tier 2: Targeted Supports
For students who need additional help, we offer targeted interventions in small group settings. These interventions focus on specific skill areas and are regularly monitored to track progress and make necessary adjustments.Tier 3: Intensive Supports
Students with significant needs receive individualized, intensive support. This may include one-on-one instruction, specialized programs, and collaboration with specialists to address unique challenges.HOPE Squad: We are excited to continue our commitment to the HOPE Squad. HOPE Squad is a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program that empowers students to support one another. Selected HOPE Squad members are trained to recognize the signs of distress and offer help to their peers. This program is a crucial part of our commitment to fostering a safe and supportive school environment where every student feels valued and heard.
Parent and Student Engagement: We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential for student success. We encourage parents and guardians to stay actively involved in their child’s education by attending school events, participating in parent-teacher conferences, and staying informed through our school communications. Students are encouraged to engage in a wide range of extracurricular activities, clubs, and sports helping students discover new interests and develop valuable skills. Your involvement and enthusiasm create a vibrant and dynamic school environment where students feel supported and motivated to excel.
Communication: Effective communication is key to our partnership. We will keep you informed through regular newsletters, emails, and our school website. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at dkeys@skusd.k12.ca.us or 661-256-5040. We are here to support you and your child throughout the school year. Your feedback and input are invaluable to us as we strive to create the best possible experience for our students. Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. Together, we can create a nurturing and stimulating environment where every student can achieve their best. We look forward to a fantastic school year ahead, filled with moments of joy, discovery, and achievement.
With warm regards and best wishes,
Dr. Debi Keys
