The Southern Kern Unified School District is committed to meeting the educational needs of the exceptional learner. All eligible children between the ages of 3 and 22 are provided appropriate educational opportunities.  The goal of our special education department is to ensure that each child receives a free and appropriate public education, with an individually designed program,  in order to meet all of their exceptional needs and promote individual growth and success.

We work diligently on Child Find in order to identify, locate, and evaluate any child within our district who presents as a student with a disability.  We strive to implement early intervention strategies, with differentiated instruction, in order to successfully educate all children within the least restrictive environment.
An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed for all students with special needs to ensure that each child has student specific goals and objectives to meet their unique needs and make educational gains and overall progress.  Southern Kern Unified School District has developed a variety of programs in order to meet the varying needs for all levels of disabilities. We welcome the opportunity to provide a rich and meaningful program to exceptional children, coordinated with the efforts of parents, to assure that lives will be more productive and complete.
