Special Olympics

WE ARE PROUD TO PRESENT SKUSD'S BRANCH OF THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS

The goal of Southern Kern Unified School District is to train, organize, and host Special Olympic events for our students with disabilities, their families, and the community.  These events will be designed to promote inclusion for all.  Some benefits of inclusion for children with or without disabilities include:  development of friendship skills, peer models, problem solving skills, positive self-image, respect for others, and promoting acceptance of differences.

The Mission of the Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition and a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
